This contest is over. The winner is Buddy Garrett from Jefferson, GA.

Despite Leonard Cohen's agreement for a
moratorium on "Hallelujah," Sam Shrieve
adds his name to the list of cover artists.

Sam Shrieve is currently honing his singing and songwriting chops as a student at Berklee College of Music, and his debut album Bittersweet Lullabies is a pleasing and diverse collection of soft pop. And speaking of "Pop," Sam's father is none other than Michael Shrieve, renowned drummer for Santana with the distinction of being the youngest musician to play Woodstock.

The elder Shrieve serves as producer on these tunes, with Sam providing the vocals, piano, acoustic guitars, drums, and strings. Sam enlists Bill Frisell -- a leading guitarist in jazz -- for the laid back "I'll Be There" and yet another cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." Logan Strosahl's alto sax punctuates the former track, and other sundry instrumentation includes Dave Keenan on mandolin ("Belita"), and Nova Devonie on accordion and Katie Schoepflin on clarinet for the Beatles-tinged "I'm Sorry."

"A professor once told me that nobody could make you a great songwriter, Shrieve relates of his schooling. "That's something you either have or you don't, but you can put more 'tools in the toolbox,' and learn to 'paint with more colors'."  Find out if the boy makes the grade by entering our contest below for your chance to win Bittersweet Lullabies!
