Television Review: Destination Truth, "Ghosts of Masada/The Leprechaun"

Josh Gates and company return to SyFy with new episodes of Destination Truth, aptly timed to coincide with St. Patrick's Day -- particularly as the latter half of the episode is focused on the hunt for that icon of the Irish, the elusive leprechaun.
But first, the team will head to Israel and investigate the stories of the many ghosts that haunt the ancient Jewish stronghold of Masada. Spending the night alone in the desert canyons, the team manages to offer a debunking of some of the rumors, specifically regarding the whispers reportedly heard by visitors.
However, they also manage to take some surprising infra-red footage, which was enough to even startle special guests Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson of SyFy's Ghost Hunters. You'll want to see this yourself.
After that adventure, we trek to the western coast of Ireland, where even today people report sightings of the little people -- and where the EU has recently declared a reserve for the "little people." Unfortunately, while we see some lush countryside, and share a dangerous moment of spelunking with Josh and Ryder, there's almost no evidence discovered that isn't easily debunked. Not that I expected there would be, but I was left disappointed in the segment nonetheless -- particularly after the rather exciting prior segment. It was, however, interesting to note that there are still people in the area who swear to eyewitness sightings.
With its characteristic sarcasm mingled with genuinely expressed interest, Destination Truth is a sort of docu-comedy answer to the old In Search Of... series that I was so addicted to in my youth. The truth is out there... and while it may not be found, it sure can be fun trying to find it.
Destination Truth, "Ghosts of Masada/The Leprechaun" debuts March 17, 10pm ET on SyFy.
