It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Syfy with Warehouse 13 Christmas Special
Television Review: Warehouse 13, "Secret Santa"
by R.J. Carter
Published: December 3, 2010

Christmas has come to Warehouse 13, and everyone's in the spirit. Pete (Eddie McClintock) is looking forward to going to his home just as much as Myka (Joanne Kelly) is to going to hers. And Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) -- with the help of her brother, Joshua (Tyler Hynes), have decorated the office with the original mistletoe (powerful stuff!) and given the whole place a twinkle-light makeover by hanging up Muhammed Ali's boxing gloves (they make you see stars without hitting you).

Alas, it's to be a working holiday for our agents, when Artie (Saul Rubinek) assigns them a new case: a building developer, evicting store owners so he can build a new shopping complex, finds himself haunted by a vengeful and destructive... Santa Claus?!? Yes, it has every appearance that Santa has put Larry Newley (Paul Blackthorne) high up on the naughty list. But it's not just a lump of coal he's threatening to leave Larry with -- it's a deadline -- and if Larry doesn't change his ways by Christmas Eve, the life he's wasting will be taken from him. But for workaholic Larry, who always disappoints his ex-wife and their little daughter (Kristi Angus, Jamie Bloch), change isn't easy. And if Pete and Myka can't find whatever artifact is causing these visions of sugarplums -- and Pete isn't so sure there's really an artifact to be found, if this is indeed the real Santa -- Larry Newley may not be around for any Christmases Yet to Come!

Meanwhile, back at the warehouse, Claudia is intent on getting Artie the perfect present. Upon finding a photo of a young, happy Artie at his old piano, she drags in Joshua and Leena (Genelle Williams) on a quest for the original instrument. But when she actually finds it, she also finds something else: Artie's father! Judd Hirsch guest stars as the perfect older Artie, and Claudia now figures she can do Artie's gift one better -- if she can just tell all the right lies to bring this estranged family back together.

"Secret Santa" takes place prior to the end of the second season, wherein we saw Myka apparently leave the series. It's a fun Christmas special that fans will certainly enjoy, taking special advantage of the lighthearted tone of the series and magnifying it here in all the right places.

Warehouse 13, "Secret Santa" airs Tuesday, December 7, 10/9c on Syfy.
