Rizzoli & Isles Back on TNT with Second Season Opener
Television Review: Rizzoli & Isles, "We Don't Need Another Hero"
by R.J. Carter
Published: July 9, 2011
After the cliffhanger ending to last season's Rizzoli & Isles, it was reasonable to question whether there would be another season. Fear not, fans. Jane Rizzoli is alive and almost well, after taking down a bad guy by shooting him through her own body!. As season two opens, the still hurting Jane is one of two ladies being honored as heroes -- the other being a returning military veteran who saved the lives of her fellow soldiers, one of whom was her lover.
Things heat up, literally, after the event, when the other girl's car explodes. Was this a terrorist attack, or was it someone inside her own unit trying to cover something up? Either way, the murder investigation propels Jane out of her self-imposed isolation and back into police work -- quite against doctor's orders. Together with her best friend, medical examiner Maura Isles, they uncover the clues that lead them to a most unexpected solution.
Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander continue to be an engaging television duo. Harmon's Jane Rizzoli is a tough cop who strives to be feminine, while Alexander's Maura Isles is a brainiac who can't help herself when it comes to showing off her copious knowledge in situations where it works against her socially. They've been best friends forever, and that dynamic clearly comes to the fore in this TNT cop drama adapted from the bestselling series of novels from Tess Gerritsen. While the crimes are puzzling, it's the off-work stuff that keeps viewers coming back, and this season looks to have plenty of that, as Jane gets a huge family bombshell dropped on her while dealing with the murder case -- part of an ongoing storyline to add some sizzle to your summer television viewing habits.
Rizzoli & Isles, "We Don't Need Another Hero" premieres Monday July 11, 10|9c on TNT.
