The S-Ratings: Survivor: Amazon - Episode 2
by The Trades Staff
Published: February 17, 2003
The S-Ratings are back for their fifth season at The Trades! Once again, we have assembled our panel of staff members to make their predictions on who will be voted off of Survivor in the upcoming week. Each of our panelists will choose one person from each tribe whom they feel will be voted off should they reach tribal council and which tribe they believe will be victorious in the immunity challenge.

Daniel has the mentality of a twelve year old. The adult males know that strength means a lot, but intelligence always wins in survivor. Why do you think none of the brawny guys have ever won?
Skinny model to worried about her looks? Buh-bye. Try Fear Factor or maybe even Big Brother.
The women just seem to have the mental toughness (don't you love that phrase) and have the right game plan. Once Daniel falls, the men will re-group (hopefully).

I think Daniel is going to try to pull it together now that Ryan, his co-hort in nothingness, has been booted. But I firmly hope and believe that the rest of the tribe will see through this. Also, after his pitiful performance on the balance beam, I really don't see this guy being any sort of serious physical threat to anyone.
For Jambura, the "bird" tribe (is that some sort of in-joke referencing British slang?), I think Janet will be the first on the block. I was going to initially say buff-washing Jenna, but I think in the end Janet's physical weakness will do her in.
The boys have been chastened, and I think learned their lesson. There will be no taking anything for granted from this point on. I'd expect them to come back with a vengeance this week.

So much excitement has emerged from Amazon's 90-minute bang out of the gates. On one side, we have the ever-so-humble Macho Men who believed so much in themselves, the magic 8-ball and their testosterone that they forgot how to walk without losing balance or how to do a basic jigsaw puzzle. After all, this game isn't rocket science... THAT would have been easier. Jeff relished in the downfall of the guys and who could blame him. His 'John Nash theory' riddle during the Thailand finale has taken on new significance after Dan, Alex and Dave collectively shot their loads over the beauty that is Shawna. Ooooh... this is going to be SO much fun to watch unfold. And we may soon have another chapter in the Robfather saga... as Long Island Rob looks to be every bit as entertaining as Boston Rob was... if not more so.
On the other side of the river, we have the land of the J. Janet. Jeanne. Jenna. Joanna. All a part of a tribe named Jaburu. How confusing! To alleviate this jumble of a tribe, I shall henceforth refer to them as Old Mopey J, Feisty J, Whiny J and Gospel J. Heidi shall now be known as the Borg Queen. Now with that out of the way, these ladies of the Amazon have made much progress in Week 1 learning how to ummm... kill a spider, collect a couple sticks, catch a minnow, wash their drawers and ostracize Christy. I'm not sure if they actually DID anything else... the guys have built a veritable fortress in the same span of time. But hey, they're winning... so what do I know?
Anyhow, this week's episode shall unfold with much bellyaching from the Macho Men and much more hilarity from Rob. While Daniel is clearly the odd man out right now, the men shall defy the book of ChillOne and actually win immunity this week. Old Mopey J shall get the boot from the waterlogged Jaburu camp only because none of the other girls remember the name of 'the deaf girl'. I'm sure Christy's wrath will bite a few of them in the ass at some point down the road. Most likely to go far in Tambaqui: Rob and Butch. The dark horse in that tribe is Matthew. Most likely to go far in Jaburu: Christy and the Borg Queen. The dark horse in that tribe is D.A. Deena.

Daniel does not seem to be a very sharp guy and, so early in the season, it is really hard to judge who may be a target but if they guys return for another vote, Daniel seems a likely choice.
The women seem pretty close and I really have no idea who to go with. I'm picking Janet but I have no real basis for this pick.
The men lost once but they will certainly not be as cocky the next time. They have been humbled and will come back strong. I expect the men to prevail in the next physical immunity challenge and the ladies will visit their first tribal council.

Well, I must be one of the only people on earth to be known as a HUGE Survivor fan (Ive met 32 contestants so far) who missed the first episode of Survivor: Amazon. Well, fear not people. I did hear reviews and know exactly what happened from my friends who are just as obsessed as I am. So what do I think...hmmm. Well, let's start with the guys. They look strong. But they don't even know eachother's names! This will come back to bite them I think. Communication is crutial, and I think Mark Burnett might throw a fastball at them this episode testing their communication skills. Anyway, I like how Butch is calmly letting Roger take control of the young, horny guys. If they should lose immunity, then Daniel will probably be next because of lack of balance.
I feel the lack of shelter will definately be a problem for the girls. It's kind of like the exact opposite of the men. I like Jeanne already (not only because she lives 20mins away from me) but because she already has the four youngest people in her tribe on her side. I think the girl's winning streak will end at the immunity challenge. Short-term danger, probably Janet and Jo-Anna. But the sick usually go before the annoying. Sorry, Janet.
Regardless, I feel they will win immunity this episode. They are naturally stronger, and this next episode usually comes with a physical challenge. The girl's winning streak will end at 2 (I think they'll win the reward challenge), but I don't think they will be smoked long term. I do see the women as long term winners (especially Jeanne, Christy, and Jenna). Enjoy...it should be great.

One thing that one saw in Episode 1 was Roger's drill instuctor approach. I think this will carry him only so far. See you Roger if Tambaqui loses this week.
Two ladies I see as expendable at this point for Jabuau are Christy or Janet. I have all the respect for Christy with her lack of one sense but being put in the environment that she is in will become ever so more important in teamwork down line. I feel she should be safe however this week. However Janet is another story; as talking in front of more than one person of how you basically wish you weren't here as you cant cut it and being sick from the getgo...well.....Have a nice trip home Janet!
Was it luck in Episode 1 or the spirits of the past Amazon Goddesses that came out in full force in the Immunity Challenge. Who would have thought that a muscular guy like Dan would fall off the log four times in the IC and give enough time for Jaburu to catch up and go on to win. Not so this week. The boys will be back more than ever determined and WILL succeed this episode. Chalk Episode 2-Tambaui.

For the men, I think it'll come down to Roger vs Daniel this time. But I have a feeling with 3 more days of being ordered around, Roger will wear out his welcome. Even on a guy like Dave.
For the women, I've pegged Deena as the first to go from the beginning and I think the way she is bossing people around will get her the boot. Does she deserve it? No, Jenna does. However, there are several younger girls who are not going to want to be bossed around for too long.
But, it's not gonna matter for the girls, cause they're not gonna have to vote. The girls are riding high on their victory and the arrogance of the guys has them trying extra special hard. I think that effort will pay off for at least one more week and Tambaqui will make the trek to Tribal Council once again.

There's an obvious split in the tribe between the older, more seasoned members and the younger, cocky members. And after Ryan's eviction, the younger members are at a clear disadvantage. Rob may be a swing vote but it's obvious that Dave has no love-loss for Dan so all older members have to do is replace the wishy-washy Rob in their alliance with the more confident Dave, and Dan is gone. The Tambaqui guys won't let their arrogance and cockiness get to them next time. They'll work hard, concentrate and persevere. They know they can hammer out their differences later. The important thing now is to beat the girls.
If anyone's going to be cocky at the next few challenges, it'll be the Jabuau girls after their come-from-behind win over the Tambaqui guys. This will probably hurt them and weaken an already weak team. Right now I think it's a toss up between Christy and Jenna. Christy is clearly at a disadvantage due to her hearing impairment and this might alienate her from the other tribe members. But Jenna's personality is her impairment. She's the latest Queen Bitch of Survivor and I think the other women have already had enough of her. I think the girls will feel guilty about voting out the deaf girl and vote out the bitch, instead.
With the girls riding high on their first victory and the guys stinging from their first loss, I think the girls will become overconfident and the guys are going to buckle down and try harder. The guys have learned their lesson and will win immunity.

With the tribe split into two already it's time for the smaller side to start losing its members. Dan, Matthew, and Ryan teamed up against Roger, with Rob choosing not to go with them. Now we have Rob, Alex, Butch, Roger, and Dave against Dan and Matt. Also, Dan hasn't really mixed well. Dave doesn't like him, and Roger also mentioned that Dan doesn't really do any work around camp. All these elements combine to make Dan the next one gone for the Tambaqui Tribe.
She hasn't been able to bond well with any of her tribemates and you can already see her being isolated like in the instance where the other women left the camp with Christy by herself. She's already the forgotten person on the tribe and there would be no hesitation to have her be the first woman to leave.
The men have been humbled and will now have a new determination within them. They can't lose twice in a row to the women. My guess is that they get it together to send the women to tribal council.
