The S-Ratings: Survivor: Amazon - Episode 3
by The Trades Staff
Published: February 24, 2003
The S-Ratings are back for their fifth season at The Trades! Once again, we have assembled our panel of staff members to make their predictions on who will be voted off of Survivor in the upcoming week. Each of our panelists will choose one person from each tribe whom they feel will be voted off should they reach tribal council and which tribe they believe will be victorious in the immunity challenge. If you missed the second episode, be sure to read Lost & Delirious to catch up on all of the details.

Tambaqui Jaburu Immunity

Alex Keen Daniel Christy Tambaqui [ e-mail Alex ]
While there was some minor tension between the boys last week, I don't think the lines have really changed too much. I think Daniel's immaturity still makes him the easy target here.

Wow, did things get really ugly last week. There are almost too many disputes to even count. And the goofiness about Survivor being a show damned to idol worship is absolutely priceless. Christy will be voted off this week not because she has a hearing disability, but because she has a speaking disability. She doesn't know when to keep quiet and roll with the punches. Rule #1 of survivor: don't instigate.

Tambaqui will continue to win until the women realize that bickering is the easiest way to insure they lose challenges.

Andrea Hazard Daniel Christy Tambaqui [ e-mail Andrea ]
Daniel is on the block. He doesn't seem to be in any way an asset, he is just dead wood and needs to be chopped off.

I think Christie has a point that she is being left out, but, unfortunately her mini-meltdown this week only further alienated her tribe-mates. They will choose her next to stop her accusations of laziness that are clearly irritating the others.

I think the boys (and they are boys, not men) are about to hit their stride. I would look for them to take the next few challenges. The girls are not a cohesive unit at all and that fragmentation is going to really hurt them. After losing the reward challenge the men buckled down and won, and now that they realize that they have to treat this game seriously and work, they will continue to do so.

I'll make things short and sweet. I think Alex was being kind last week in saying that Dan "has the mentality of a twelve year old". That's disrespectful to most 12 year olds. While Rob clearly has Roger in his sights, he knows there's no hurry to take out the old guy given his lack of allies and his abrasive attitude. Better to stay beneath the radar and take out big Daniel before the girls sink their claws into him. Daniel screams 'easy to manipulate' and could become dangerous if allied with some wily females. Dan's non-existent Week 2 screentime makes me suspicious, too.

Joanna hates Christy. Christy hates Jenna. Jenna hates having dirty undies. This week sees the formation of the 'bathing alliance' of Whiny J, Borg Queen and Shawna. If the ladies lose immunity once again (which could go either way right now), logic would dictate they'd take out the 'weak link'... which is clearly Christy. However, while I'm less assured of Christy's long-term chances in the game than I was a week ago, I'm fairly confident her story arc isn't over yet. So if Jaburu DOES head to tribal council, the idol fearing Gospel J will be the target of choice. Let's hope she gets some anger management therapy sometime soon.

As with most Week 3s, predictions start to get a little dicey after the early season free passes we get from preseason media coverage. The S-Ratings track record doesn't lie... Thailand Week 3: 0/7, Marquesas 1/11 (and you didn't even have to pick the winning tribe), Africa 0/8. Collectively, that's 1 right pick out of 26 for Week 3 boots. I'm not going to kid you here... this vote will likely change before the show airs. My prediction for the immunity win this week lies in the episode's title... 'Girl Power'. The preview focuses on the girls. The CBS riddles revolve around the women. Jeff Probst has even commented in a published interview that he interrogates the women about the guys at the tribal council immediately following this week's 'Dating Game' reward challenge. In short, we're being swerved from a Daniel boot. Macho Men lose again.

Bryan Farmer Roger Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Bryan ]
Both of my male and female picks are based off who bugs me personally. Roger just doesn't deserve any more TV time. He's pushy, arrogant and sexist and frankly on my last nerve. There's a chance the guys are going to drag him along for strategic reasons, leaving Daniel to probably get booted, but as far as I'm concerned, Roger needs to have his negative attitude voted out. It's okay to be a leader, but not a self-appointed one.

Where did they find JoAnna? The first episode I thought she was going to be totally cool, but after her freaky "idol" problem and the fight with Christy, she's just proved how rude and delusional she is. Sure Christy might have been lame to call her idol beliefs "stupid" aloud, but her outrageous confrontation was eye-opening. Let's be real, JoAnna. Having the "idol" means you win--leaving you closer to a million dollars--not having it means YOU LOSE! You knew what you signed up for, lady. Get the hell over it.

The previews for this week show the women still not working together. This is just going to set them back. They need a leader and then the other girls need to just shut up and do what needs to be done. But yet the three hot chicks--Jenna, Heidi and Shawna--are just waiting for their camp to merge with the guys so the men can do all the work for them, while they sit and flash their breasts, hoping that will be their saving grace towards the million! This team is a mess. I can't believe we're going onto day seven and they still don't even have shelter! Sad. Very sad.

Daniel still seems a little too irritating for the guys to stand much longer but I believe the next challenge will be physical and the guys will probably dominate so I won't say much about Daniel.

Christy may feel isolated and I have no idea how difficult it is to assimilate when deaf but she seems to be isolating herself (further) by saying things. If you feel left out, try to fit in better and keep your mouth shut. The more you mouth off, the worse it gets.

The men have calmed down and will probably continue winning the physical challenges. If a mental challenge comes out though, the men do not seem to have a lot of brain power but I think the next will be physical with the men of Tambaqui taking immunity number two.

Greg Tomao Daniel Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Greg ]
The men's tribe is doing well, minus a couple people's actions. Roger SHOULD be the next off for Tambaqui, but alas, Roger, as shown in the first tribal council, is in the majority alliance. Therefore, if Tambaqui is to lose, then Daniel, who I don't care for much either, will be gone.

Let me just start off by saying I have a younger sister who is hearing impared. She wants to cut Joanna's head off her body. The reason being. Joanna is the worst thing to come from Survivor in history (I met Jerri, she's actually really nice.) Joanna not only blew up a situation which was 'stupid' to begin with, but she also but her hand in front of a deaf person's face, which pretty much means a four letter word which I care not to say, but you get the idea. That's why Cristy went off and made the situation worse, and rightly so. Noone should have to deal with a person who is as unstable and as much of a hypocrite as Joanna is. In short, her bible-toting butt will be gone Thursday, mark my words.

The guys are stronger, and are more capable of working as a unit. Until a switch happens, you WILL see a lot more bickering and no productivity from the girl's tribe. Tambaqui will win based on strenth or teamwork Thursday. Enjoy!

I still have to stick to my pick in the Tambaqui tribe from Episode 1 for getting the boot. The only person that I could see getting ousted is Roger. The drill sargent approach added to this last weeks 'homo' lecture only added to my belief that a uprising will choose him as the one.

As I mentioned in Episode 1 it would be either Janet or Christy in the Jaburu tribe. With Janet getting the boot one would think Christy would be the one to go this week. Things are never so easy. Christy made herself very vulnerable during the Tribal Council and yet she didnt go. I will say this week it is a toss up with between Christy and JoAnna. The reason I say JoAnna is very simple. JoAnna made a mountain out of a mole hile with the "idiol" issue. Not good!!! Second, JoAnna jumped all over Christy not alone but with another member in attendance. Again, not good call it strike 2. Just as Janet opened her mouth this last week and she got the boot so will JoAnna. So it will be strike 3...thats my pick: JoAnna in round 3 for the boot.

One thing one has to be aware of after watching the last episode is how very important it is for each of the tribes to work together. I dont see the Jaburu doing such. There are tensions and the cohesiveness is not there. The Tambaqui team after their first loss came back as one unit and showed that they can work together as a team even with some internal problems. This week look for Tambaqui to win two straight Immunity challenges. Thats my pick-Tambaqui for Episode 3

Jim Van Nest Roger Deena Jaburu [ e-mail Jim ]
Well, Roger certainly didn't endear himself last week with the whole "gays are bad, mmmkay" argument with Alex. Daniel and Matthew already want him out. Rob is plotting against him. That is 3 of the necessary 4 votes already. If his little tirade swayed Alex to the other side, we could be saying goodbye to Rog this week.

Joanna seems to have pissed off the entire country. And Christy decided to make things easier for herself by calling her entire tribe lazy. It seems it would be a coin toss between these two idiots, right? Well, I think over the next few days we're going to see Deena emerge as the "leader" of the tribe...and that will be her downfall.

I've got the sneaking suspicion that the women will get it together for this week's immunity challenge. The guys will be riding high off the last immunity win, plus I expect them to win the reward challenge, and the cockiness just might cost them this week. Buh bye, Roger.

Raul Burriel Rob Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Raul ]
There's a lot of strife within the men's camp. The one solid alliance of seasoned and experience men (aligned against the slackers) is starting to fall apart as Roger made his feelings about homosexuals known. Rob may try to join the slackers and whatever tribe member is gay (you know someone's gay - it's a Survivor staple) and try to vote out Roger. But the guys are pragmatic and won't be so easily played. Their personal distaste for each other won't cause them to hurt the tribe (Roger's still a necessity in this tribe). Instead, Rob's two-timing will probably be the end of him.

The women's tribe is all over the place in their voting. No one's making alliances yet, but given the results of the last tribal council vote, it will probably prompt the women to start gelling into cliques and voting alliances. It's the only way to win, after all. And if the chips fall in the right way, Joanna's gonna be gone soon. Regardless of her behavior towards the idol (she's nuts!), it's clear that she's generally and all around unbalanced. She's got 'tude. And she's going to eventually rub all the girls the wrong way. She has to go. And she will go - especially if the girls start suspecting she's throwing challenges because she doesn't want the Immunity Idol in the camp.

The guys may be riding high after winning immunity, but they lost the reward challenge (even if the prize was crappy). They won't let their immunity win get to their heads. They already know the consequences of overconfidence. The guys will continue to play hard and win. The women, with no shelter and little food, have little chance against this group of well-rested and well-fed group of men.

Vincent Chen Roger Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Vince ]
Alex's little discussion with Roger may be Roger's undoing. Alex doesn't like him now, and Rob has noticed. I'm guessing Rob, Daniel, Alex, and Matthew will join up against Dave, Butch, and Roger. Daniel and Matthew will go with any majority to save their own skins now that they lost Ryan and Rob and Alex don't like Roger. It all adds up to Roger getting the boot.

Joanna really annoys me on two counts. First, the whole idol thing is absolutely ridiculous. It made me groan as she kept talking it. Second, she totally blew up at Christy. She's such a hypocrite, acting holier than thou and yet picking fights with others. She's an idiot, and the other women will see this. Good riddance.

Tambaqui's members are in much better shape because they have a superior camp. They have a shelter and they are more comfortable. They are in a much better condition compared to the women and it'll show in the immunity challenge.
