The S-Ratings: Survivor: Amazon - Episode 4
by The Trades Staff
Published: March 3, 2003
The S-Ratings are back for their fifth season at The Trades! Once again, we have assembled our panel of staff members to make their predictions on who will be voted off of Survivor in the upcoming week. Each of our panelists will choose one person from each tribe whom they feel will be voted off should they reach tribal council and which tribe they believe will be victorious in the immunity challenge. If you missed the third episode, be sure to read Lost & Delirious to catch up on all of the details.

Tambaqui Jaburu Immunity

Alex Keen Roger Christy Tambaqui [ e-mail Alex ]
I don't see the old man alliance lasting after the removal of Daniel. Alex, Rob, and Matthew should align... and may get Butch to join.

Christy is just not fitting in with either of the two cliques. She is still the easy target.

With Daniel gone the men will gel together much better and should have the strength to win this week.

Andrea Hazard Roger Christy Jaburu [ e-mail Andrea ]
Everyone who is left, other than Roger, seems to be working as a fairly unified unit. Roger's know how and leadership was useful to them at the beginning, but now that the boys are settled in and their day to day life has taken on a routine, I think Roger's time is up in Brazil.

Whenever Jaburu goes back to Tribal Council, it will be Christy. She has been left out a little, and then exacerbated that problem with her own comments and complaints.

I think the men are disheartened. And the girls are finally getting it together back at camp. I see the girls winning one more time.

Brad Lascelle Roger Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Brad ]
The Macho Men aren't going back to tribal council THIS week... and I suspect a gender swap involving the mystery box NEXT week will prevent Tambaqui from returning to Tribal Council again in its present form. In Africa, the Marquesas and Thailand we've seen mandatory or optional tribal swaps thrown into the mix by Episode 5 at the latest. There's no reason to suspect things will be any different this time around if we go into next week with a 6-6 gender/tribal split. Makes things so nice and easy for the girl-guy dynamic to make its natural progression... you just know some of the guys are chomping at the bit to hitch up with the Jaburu hotties and screw their Tambaqui brothers over. I've only included Roger's name as my token boot choice due to the fact that I feel Matt and Rob would finally be able to win over Alex and Dave to oust 'Ole Man Vinegar if push came to shove this week.

The title of this week's episode is 'Trapped' and refers to Shawna's foreshadowed desire to quit the game as a result of one of the following: bee sting, her 'time of the month', malaria, a pirahna swimming up her rear end... or perhaps Joanna's preaching and Idol phobia is just getting on her nerves. Problem is she CAN'T vote for herself and her fellow bathing beauties (Jenna and Heidi) aren't about to let the power of their voting block slip away and into the hands of the J&J Connection (Jeanne and Joanna). In other words, she's "trapped". As for the voting dynamics, while Deena is smart enough to ride the voting wave whichever way it leads prior to merge... even if she didn't give the 'Bathing 3' her support against Joanna, they could just as easily blackmail Christy for her vote by threatening to boot her if she doesn't follow through. Hey, they finally found a use for the deaf girl! Good for them!

Winning 4 out of 5 challenges to date would lead one to believe that the women would continue to persevere, however promo footage from this week's Reward and Immunity Challenges seem to indicate that the tide may finally be turning. As a result, the horny men shall not be humbled in Episode 4 and the Immunity Idol shall torment Gospel J no longer. She's about to get fed to the fishies.

Roger has been irritating people by barking orders. He is in the classic "oust the leader" position and is surely the next to go. Daniel was stupid and needed to go first but Roger is next up. The tribe is tired of him and its his fault.

Joanna is a nut case. I certainly don't have a problem with her being religious but making yourself look insane on national television certainly isn't needed. It is perfectly fine for her to be happy about her faith but complaining about an idol on a gameshow? Has she never seen Survivor before? Every Survivor has had an immunity idol and, surprise, this one is no different.

The men shall rebound and even the tribes again.

Greg Tomao Roger Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Greg ]
Roger is the clear person to send out this week for the men's tribe. Now that Ryan and Daniel are gone, people are going to realize work CAN get done productively, especially without a bossy biggot on the tribe. So, Roger is probably most vulnerable, with Alex close behind.

The girls are doing better now. Appointing Deena was a good decision and a great strategy move by Jeanne. If the girls lose the IC, I feel JoAnna's actions, which are definately NOT forgotten, will send the others to vote her off, rather than the sick, tired Shawna, or the diabled Christy. Go figure.

Overall, the time has come for the men to start dominating this game. If they don't start soon, these girls will definately enter the merge up a few people. I think the pendulum will finally start swaying towards the men, with JoAnna and Shawna leaving over the next few episodes, barring a switch of any sort. The men are still physically stronger, and just need the teamwork, which the girls have, to end up on the winning side of things. Bye JoAnna...I honestly can say I will NOT miss you.

I have two possible picks from the Tambaqui tribe for getting ousted. It will be between the two male players who showed their different points of view in Episode 2-Alex or Roger. My guess would be one little incident that could flare up would cause either one of them to get the boot. I have to give the weight to Roger once again as his attitude will I feel come into play and throw him over the edge. Roger again to go in Episode 4.

For team Jaburu I too also have to elect two people this week. Most evident is Shawna crying about her wanting to get off the show. Will it really come to pass this week? The other person that just like Tamaqui will jump out if the situation arises due to her aggressive nature is JoAnne. All it will take is one flareup in front of other team members and I really think it will happen. Shawn's evidence in this weeks coming episode is just to evident. My pick will be with JoAnne for Episode 4 as I think an incident will bring her to the surface for the boot.

Good go for team Jaburu in Episode 3. No doubt you showed the men tribe how team work is played out. I really feel that this week will swing back the other way as it looks as though a fishing contest will come into play and my hunch is playing out that the Tambaqui tribe will pull this one out. Even though they only spend an hour a day on fishing they will come together this time if that is the challenge. Also I feel by Daniel being gone the team will be better unified as he really brought very little during the previous competitions.Tambaqui will rally back to win IC Episode 4

Jim Van Nest Matthew Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Jim ]
Ok, the dead weight is now gone. The rest of the Tamabqui tribe works hard and has been getting the job done, well, except for fishing. But I'd expect that to change this week. The smart money is this week is on Roger to get the boot, but who ever said I was smart? I think Roger has a decent alliance with Butch and Dave. Alex and Rob will go with the majority, I think. What that does is leave Matthew on the outside looking in. He's been working and helpful, but there's nothing he does that can't be replaced. He hooked up with Ryan and Dan at the beginning, and if they go to Tribal Council this week, it'll cost him.

The Jabaru tribe is more difficult to figure out. The previews hint that Shawna is close to quitting. What that says to me is, there's no way Shawna will go this week. What's odd is in this tribe of 7, we seem to have 3 alliances going on. We have the "Moms and Gods" alliance of Jeanne and Joanna, the "Cutie Pie" alliance of Jenna, Shawna and Heidi and the "Nobody Else Wants to Hang Out With Us" alliance of Christy and Deena. The next person out of Jabaru, in my opinion, will be the next person to piss off the others. Deena has turned this camp around and they're finally headed in the right direction, she's safe. Jeanne hasn't let her coniving side show yet, she's safe. Heidi's actions and remarks have a target on her head, however, she's not near as annoying and useless as Jenna. To me, there are 3 choices...Jenna, Joanna and Christy. Each one has done their share to annoy the tribe. When I flip my 3-sided coin, it comes up with Joanna.

I fully expect the guys to come back and take this challenge, maybe both challenges this week. Like I said, they removed the dead weight and should be functioning a lot better because of it. We can see the divisions plain as day in the women's camp, and I think it may start to tear them apart this week. So, look for the women to lose and Joanna to lose. (Wonder how'll she explain that with scripture?)

Raul Burriel Roger Christy Tambaqui [ e-mail Raul ]
With the slackers, Daniel and Ryan, gone, it's time for Tambaqui to clean house. Roger was useful for as long as he was needed. He helped bring order to the camp and get rid of the slackers and he was especially useful in catching the votes of dissent. But now he's not needed anymore and his attitude is surely starting to rub the rest of Tambaqui the wrong way. Time for this highly opinionated member of Tambaqui to go.

Christy's had trouble geling with her trible. The "young, pretty" girls don't consider her one of them, and on the other side there's Joanna who's got an attitude problem and takes it out on Christy. Her hearing impairment is a liability in challenges and if the girls lose a challenge or two, they'll scapegoat Christy.

The men of Tambaqui have lost another immunity challenge, shattering their already fragile egos. At the same time, the girls are getting their acts together and getting stronger. But the men aren't about to roll over and play dead. Their poor performance at the last immunity challenge suggests perhaps an attempt to *throw* the competition. With Dan and Ryan now gone, the men are likely to perform better in the challenges, not only because they're all willing to work hard, but also because they're a more cohesive unit.

Shawn Peers Rob Christy Jaburu [ e-mail Shawn ]
Reason why Rob gets the boot. I know it would be easy to pick Roger as the next ejectee. Afterall, he is the only one of the remaining men to have any votes against him. But two of the three men who have voted against him in the past have now taken the "walk of shame" to Losers Lodge. And Mathew, realizing Alex and Rob were not going to vote against him, recanted his previous vote and took out buddy, Daniel. So now Rob has been exposed as being someone working both sides of the fence real hard. He will not be trusted. Instead, he will be ousted.

Reason why Christy gets the boot. Christy actually will not be voted out because the women will not be voting. But in case I am wrong on that point, I still think her problems fitting in are going to haunt her. I am not so sure she is actually "in" with Deena, Jeanne and JoAnna...she is just with them because she has been completely rejected by the "hottie alliance". And yes, Shawna appears to suffer a meltdown next week...but I still think that will not count against her too badly...yet!

Jaburu will win immunity because, finally, they have their act together. They have elected a reluctant leader and she does not appear to be "too"bossy. The important thing is they are building a shelter and getting food. And while the men show up at challenges to oggle, the women show up to play the game...much more than can be said for resident "rocket scientist", Dave. Yes, Dave, there are things happening around you...its called the game of Survivor. Pay attention to Jenna for reasons other than her posterior region. She is playing the game hard, as can be witnessed by her proclamation to Rob during the RC. She had Rob so out of the game he was practically telling the women what objects he had in his desk!!! Never mind the saying, "it ain't rocket science"...this show might have us saying "it ain't swimsuit modelling"!

Vincent Chen Roger Joanna Tambaqui [ e-mail Vince ]
I'll stick with Roger because I still think his attitude wont sit well with the others. I was thinking of taking Matthew because of his association with Daniel, but Matthew did vote against Dan and that should buy him some credit. Since the others have such a large number against Matt they can get rid of him later if they want and concentrate and getting out someone annoying like Roger.

I'm also going to stay with Joanna because of her attitude. Like Roger's attitude, I don't like her attitude. Other candidates include a tired Shawna or an isolated Christy. But I think an annoying Joanna goes before the other two.

The guys have been getting killed in challenges and I'm picking them mostly because they're due for a win. They cannot continually lose to a bunch of girls... can they?
