With an opening shot that hits the sonic pinnacle, this collection of spiritual Brit pop/rock is heavily influenced by Keane, Travis, Coldplay, and U2.
This year NBC’s “Las Vegas” has become the number one rated new show in the critical 18 to 49 year old demographic, and for good reason. With a cast brimming full of fresh young talent, and featuring a city that is an attraction in and of itself, “Las Vegas” is a drama that never fails to impress.
Seasoned veteran James Caan stars as Ed Deline, a former CIA agent who is now the head of security at the fictional Montecito Resort and Casino. Rising star Josh Duhamel plays Danny McCoy, a former US marine who serves as Ed’s right hand man. Mary Connell (Nikki Cox), the casino’s event coordinator, is Danny’s ex-flame and long time friend who hopes to rekindle a romantic relationship with him. Molly Sims, Vanessa Marcil, James Lesure, and Marsha Thomason round out the cast, bringing a sleek edge to show with their eclectic combination of acting styles.
Each of these leading stars conveys the unique personalities of their characters and together share an electric chemistry that makes the show sizzle. Duhamel, in particular, displays remarkable potential, possessing an innate acting ability that is sure to make him one of Hollywood’s most sought after stars. His cool charisma and attention to detail in the portrayal of his character are qualities that make him stand out as a rare talent.
Although he does not receive as much attention as some of the other cast members, James Lesure’s portrayal of Mike (the parking valet who dabbles in security and surveillance work) is also particularly enjoyable. Lesure delivers performances that are full of energy, and he exudes a warm, easy confidence that fits his character nicely.
Of the three female leads, Nikki Cox is the standout. Her beauty is unmatched, and each week she becomes more comfortable in her role. She is most convincing in the scenes that she shares with Duhamel, because she is especially adept at depicting the emotions of unrequited love.
In addition to the stellar cast, the writing crew does an admirable job of creating fast paced, action packed episodes that highlight the trademark qualities of the city while enhancing the character driven storylines. From a bomb-strapped man holding the casino hostage to a city wide blackout that leaves Danny and Mary trapped in an elevator, this season’s batch of episodes have provided viewers with one thrilling scenario after another.
In tonight’s season finale, Danny receives notice from the military that he has been called back to active service and must report for duty in 24 hours. Danny’s call-up generates emotional responses from the Montecito’s staff, especially Mary, making it a must-see episode.
With NBC already confirming that “Las Vegas” will be back for a second season, audiences can look forward to more dynamic action on the Vegas strip next fall!
Las Vegas’s Season Finale Will Air Monday, May 17th on NBC at 9:00 P.M.
