Avril Lavigne has a lot going for her. She’s young, beautiful, exceptionally talented, and has legions of dedicated fans. Therefore, it’s no surprise that she received a warm and enthusiastic reception from the crowd assembled at the CSU Convocation Center in Cleveland, Ohio, on Friday, November 5th. Sporting blonde hair, a slim fitting black tank top, and snug black jeans, Lavigne performed an 80-minute set that included all of her signature songs. From the chart topping smash, “Complicated”, to her latest single, “Nobody’s Home”, Lavigne rocked the Convocation Center with electric, energetic performances.
Unlike the concerts of some pop idols, Lavigne doesn’t have to resort to lip synching to wow her audiences. Her voice is pure and powerful, making her one of the few artists who has the ability to emote emotion not only through her lyrics but also through the soaring tone with which she can carry a note.
Lavigne is also a skilled musician, as demonstrated by her stints playing the guitar, piano, and drums. Her strongest moments from the Cleveland show came on the piano with her excellent renditions of the up-tempo song, “Together”, and the dark and defiant, “Forgotten”.
Yet, no matter what song she belted out, Lavigne captivated and commanded the attention of all in attendance. She clearly has an improved stage presence from her earlier concert tours and now appears to be more comfortable than ever performing in front of a large audience. On stage she demonstrates a clear passion for her music and transmits that energy to the audience with ease.
In an industry chock full of bright eyed young pop stars that have false charm and little talent, an artist like Lavigne stands out all the more. As her concerts prove, Lavigne has achieved her fame for one simple reason- she deserves it. With a compelling voice and stunning good looks, Avril Lavigne is as genuine a star as you’re ever going to find.
With even the most expensive tickets priced under $40, Avril Lavigne’s 2004 Bonez Concert Tour is one concert you literally can’t afford to miss.
