Since its inception, Wind-up Records has always had a knack for discovering some of the best new talent in the music industry. Breaking Point’s sophomore release, “Beautiful Disorder”, reaffirms that reputation.

Conveying real emotion with a sharp edge of raw feeling, “Beautiful Disorder” is a formidable addition to the rock genre. Most of the tracks deal with love or the disintegration of a relationship, but in “Reality Show” Breaking Point expands the scope of their lyrics even further to remark on the superficiality of today’s mass media culture in what is a particularly thoughtful commentary on modern day society.

Although most of the tracks are well written, the selection of songs on this album represents Breaking Point’s lack of self-identity. “Beautiful Disorder” over-represents their hard rock side, neglecting the fact that their slower, more intimate songs have the strongest resonance.

That said, however, “Beautiful Disorder” marks an otherwise solid effort for this emerging band. Lead singer Brett Erickson’s voice always fits the mood of the song, and the rest of the band delivers engaging instrumental performances that encompass the listener in the emotion of each track. With this release, Breaking Point should continue to build upon their devoted fan base.

Overall Grade: B
