21 Jump Street is the ground-breaking series that followed the lives of young cops as they worked undercover in a variety of situations. They pose as high school students, a little league coach, members of a motorcycle gang, college students, and more. Season Four includes plenty of new scenarios that the cops dive into with the same exuberance displayed by most young cops. This season includes the departures of Tom Hanson played by Johnny Depp, Harry Loki played by Dustin Nguyen, and Dennis Booker played by Richard Grieco.
This season begins with Hanson in prison. His partner, Booker, solves the case but also resigns from the force. While investigating a suspected LSD supplier, Hanson will meet a familiar face. The cops also investigate the alleged-paranormal when a teen claiming psychic powers is able to predict a string of fires. In the most shocking episode of the season, "Stand by Your Man," Judy Hoff (Holly Robinson Peete) is raped while investigating a drug ring.
In "Parental Guidance Suggested," the team is watching a suspected burglary ring but the real problem is the house next door where an abusive dad might lead to murder. "Back from the Future" takes the series into the 21st century where a new cop wants to revive the now-abandoned Jump Street program. Hanson and Penhall will team up one last time and Penhall will go undercover in a neo-Nazi group. "How I Saved the Senator" is the most unique episode of this season, billed as a fan favorite, where each of the Jump Street cops tell the same story with a few differing details. Each version features a different hero, and, not surprisingly, the person telling that particular version comes out as the hero. The season concludes with Penhall finding himself in a very unusual situation, becoming the focus of a Jump Street investigation.
Season Four features 1201 minutes of entertainment spread out over 26 episodes. In addition to the great cast, this season features plenty of guest stars includes Vince Vaughn, Rob Estes, the one-and-only Rosie Perez (!), Thomas Haden Church, Julie Warner, Sherilyn Fenn, Lela Rochon, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, John Waters, and Shannen Doherty. Unfortunately, there are no bonus features included in this set which is disappointing. Surely, there are some interviews or old footage somewhere that could be included. I'm sure they could find a few of the stars to provide some commentary. However, the season provides hours of entertainment and gives you the chance to relive this groundbreaking series, complete with the fashion and hairstyles of the late '80s.
Included in the set is a rebate offer expiring April 1, 2006. If you purchase any two seasons of 21 Jump Street on the same receipt, you can mail the rebate form and requested information to receive a $10 rebate. If you need help deciding whether to purchase another season, read our review of Season Three.
