If you don't know what The A-Team is about, I pity you, a fool. That's right. I pity the foo.
You knew it was coming.
Growing up, I had a Hot Wheels replica of the black van popularized by the 1980s series, The A-Team. In fact, I still have it. Starring Mr. T as B.A., George Peppard as Hannibal, Dirk Benedict as Face, and Dwight Schultz as Murdock, this group of AWOL veterans are out to help others while they avoid capture by the military for a crime they didn't commit. They are ready to help when no one else will. As the case states, "If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire The A-Team!"
It's been a few years since I last saw this odd gang but the unique magic of the show is still there. The show has plenty of 80s elements, but they are easily overlooked thanks to plenty of explosive action. The show certainly doesn't include any of the award-winning special effects you might see from CSI: or 24. The explosions are still red hot and the gun fire dangerously close. There is an understated element of gimmicky (pardon the word) fun that makes the show a pleasure to watch.
The show lasted just five seasons but has certainly been one of the more well-known TV series of all-time. Although the show was fun, it was still a gimmick and gimmicks lose their appeal faster than other shows. Much like other shows with a gimmick, such as Doogie Howser, M.D. which lasted just four seasons, the show's success tends to trail off as the seasons pass. It becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the appeal over long periods of time. This new release covers season three, the longest and most popular season in the show's history. The 25 episodes originally aired on NBC from September 18, 1984 through May 14, 1985. During this season, the A-Team encounters some toxic-waste dump and wild-game poaching. They even open their own restaurant.
There are no audio or video problems with this set. The audio and video are comparable to any standard TV on DVD set. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0. English subtitles are also available.
This set features three double-sided discs that we all despise. It is packaged in three slim clear cases. There are no bonus features on this set, which is not uncommon for older TV series.
