Tom Selleck is Magnum, the Hawaiian private investigator with the infamous mustache. He stars in Magnum, P.I., the long-running CBS action series. In addition to his perfect moustache, he drives a cherry red Ferrari and has plenty of the "moves" you'd expect from a star like Selleck.

The hour-long episodes of Magnum, P.I. lasted for eight seasons. This release includes all of season three, which featured 23 episodes (two episodes are billed as a single, two-part episode for the official tally of 22). The episodes originally aired from September 30, 1982 through April 28, 1983. Tom Selleck had plenty of television experience before taking on this role. He first appeared on television in a 1969 episode of Lancer.

As far as Magnum, I wasn't even born when the series first premiered. Prior to watching this DVD release, I had never before seen a single episode. If I was younger, I think the series might be more enjoyable. As a kid, I loved Walker, Texas Ranger and would never miss an episode. Today, I find Walker to be downright comical and nonsensical. I had the same feeling while watching Magnum. It had plenty of action that provided entertainment value; however, the entertainment value was more humor than excitement.

The plotlines were not too in-depth but they weren't overly simplistic either. They were just alright. However, some were just plain goofy and screamed of the '80s. For a perfect example, in one episode, a bird expert with a porn-star mustache has a parrot on his shoulder. Another episode reminds me of the famous Hawaiian episodes of The Brady Bunch. Magnum is guarding valuable items for a charity auction. However, a dying man wants to steal a Hawaiian artifact that he believes will save him from a curse. All that is missing is Greg Brady on a surfboard. Joining Selleck were Roger Mosley as T.C. and Larry Manetti as Rick.

There is nothing wrong with the audio or video of this set. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are available.

The only so-called bonus feature is a bonus episode, the first episode from season four. This set is presented on three double-sided discs. Having never seen a single episode prior to preparation for this review, I was quite disappointed, as stated above, and would have trouble paying an average online price of $40 for this season. This set would only be good for fans of the series.
