Yes! It's like, the best Special Edition, ever of "Napoleon Dynamite", that film about the kid in Idaho with all the skills.
Jon Heder plays Napoleon, a nerdy kid whose lack of social graces never stops him from having supreme confidence in himself in the face of whatever odds are in his path. Even when his grandma has a four-wheeler accident and Uncle Rico (Jon Gries, The Pretender) comes to live with him and older brother Kip (Aaron Ruell), making their lives heck with his crazy plans to make money so he can buy a time machine online and return to 1982 and win the big football game, Napoleon doesn't flinch. He just throws tomatoes and runs.
When Deb met Napoleon -- young geeks in love.
L-R: Majorino, Heder
Part of the charm of "Napoleon Dynamite" is that the setting could be just about anytime. If it weren't for Kip's online romance, this could have been shot in the 1970s (given the decor), the 1980s (given the fashion) or just last week. Set in the small town of Preston, Idaho, "Napoleon Dynamite" features an ensemble cast of lovable losers who work together to help the new kid, Pedro, win the class president election. Along the way, you'll learn valuable information like, how to identify ligers and stuff.
If you're already a fan of this film, then you'll be excited to experience the special features on this two-disc set. On the first disc, there are two totally great commentary tracks -- the original one with Producer Jeremy Coon, Director Jared Hess, and Napoleon himself, Jon Heder; and a second track with actors Aaron Ruell, Jon Gries, Efren Ramirez and Tina Majorino.
The second has some really flippin' sweet extras. There are like two documentaries on the filming and release of the movie, which are kinda cool. Then there are three menus worth of deleted scenes -- the first page of which comes with commentary by Hess, Heder and Coon. You'll get to see Majorino, Ramirez and Haylie Duff audition for their roles in the film, and even watch "Peluca", which is like the original "Napoleon Dynamite" short film that's cool even though it's black and white.
There's a collection of Napoleon sightings, like on MTV's TRL, the "Tankman Begins" skit and Jon Heder's opening of Saturday Night Live, plus some sweet Utah State Fair promotional ads that Napoleon and Pedro put on. Finally, there's a set of all the ads that ran on MTV, and a one year later reunion where Kip gets married to his online woman, Lafawnduh.
Even though it's not like a documentary or anything, you'll catch yourself in several places going, "Oh yeah, I remember that day," even though you weren't there or anything. It's that much a slice of real life and stuff. So, like, get this disc set and all your wildest dreams will come true.
Previews on this disc include "Office Space - Special Edition With Flair". The audio is in Dolby Surround, which can be heard in either English 5.1, Spanish, or French, with optional subtitling in English or Spanish. And it's all in widescreen (1.85:1) so it's like watching a theater movie in your home. Yesss!
