DVD Review: That '70s Show - Season Four
by Chad Maddux
Published: June 1, 2006
As I said in my review of season three of That '70s Show, I never imagined that I could like a show about the 1970s. Of course, it is now one of my favorite series. After eight seasons, the series its run ended last month on FOX.

This fourth season set features 27 episodes that originally aired from September 25, 2001 through May 21, 2002. This season was the longest in series history. All of the gang, Eric, Donna, Fez, Jackie, Kelso, and Hyde, have returned.

Not much has changed since my last review so I won't duplicate my comments. This season does feature a few memorable episodes. In "Bye-Bye Basement," Kitty tries to redecorate the basement, much to the horror of Eric. Also, one of the all-time best episodes aired during the fourth season. "Eric's Hot Cousin," written by Saturday Night Live performer Will Forte, features Eric's cousin who reveals to Eric that she's adopted, clearing the path for some sweet cousin loving. Unfortunately for Eric, things are not quite as they appear. In the all-too-funny scene when Red and Kitty come to the basement, the moment of long-sought revenge is priceless.

The bonus features are not very interesting or compelling. The "Season 4 in 4 Minutes" featurette is pretty self-explanatory, akin to the "season hightlights" featurettes found on many TV on DVD sets. There are two interviews, one with Laura Prepon (Donna) and Mila Kunis (Jackie) and one with director David Trainor. These are standard, dull interviews intermixed with video clips. There are also some audio commentary tracks available with certain episodes.

The menu problems addressed in my season three review have been resolved, and the menu now operates cleanly. This season is packaged on four single-sided discs contained in four slim clear cases. For fans of the series, this season is a good purchase. Despite the lack of good bonus content, the season speaks (and laughs) for itself. Although many sets experience price drops as time goes by, past seasons of That '70s Show have held their prices, actually rising some so no need to wait around for a price drop.

Also available for purchase: Season 1 | Season 2 | Season 3
