A Summary
The eagle has landed. In this case, it’s a Caribou DHC-4 on loan from the Royal Australian Air Force. On board, sixteen people vying to become the ultimate Survivor.
After landing, the contestants split into their respective tribes, Kucha and Ogakor. Each tribe was provided with a box of supplies that they were forced to carry along the five-mile trek to their campsites. On top of the supply box was a map, which the tribes would have to follow using a compass in order to reach their camps. Early on this first team effort, enemies are made. Nick, in charge of using the compass, was misreading it and leading Kucha in the wrong direction. Debb immediately started barking orders on which direction to go and who should lead. These orders did not please Kimmi. Colby of Ogakor used the five-mile hike to determine “what people were made of.” He recognized early who would do best in tiring situations. Keith decided to make a good early impression and allowed Ogakor to rest while he ran ahead to locate the campsite. Jeff began feeling ill on the flight and was still feeling sick on the hike. Finally, both tribes reached their campsites.
Kucha immediately recognized the importance of shelter. The eight members of the tribe began bickering about the location of the shelter. Some felt it should be away from the trees; others felt the importance of the trees as a means of shelter. As it began to rain, the tribe cleared the area, under the trees, for their shelter. At this juncture, Debb felt that Mike was ordering people around when he should allow Rodger, who worked in construction, to design the structure. Ogakor had no dispute over where to build their shelter: in the shade under the trees. While building their living quarters, Keith and Jerri argued over placement of support limbs. Jerri felt that Keith was condescending in his remarks and the way he responded to her input.
When night fell, the annoyances began. At Kucha, Kimmi began expressing her feelings. One of her concerns was where she would be able to masturbate. Debb and Jeff were not amused to listen to Kimmi’s “screaming” voice. The next morning, Kucha made its first attempts at fire. Debb began working hard to start a fire but her attempts were unsuccessful. Members of Kucha put forth efforts to spark a fire; they too were unsuccessful.
The tribes came together for the immunity challenge. The reward for winning this challenge: matches and the immunity idol. The challenge was to move a lit torch across four obstacles located in water without extinguishing the torch by dropping it in the water. Kucha experience problems early when Elisabeth fell into the water. Then, Rodger became entangled in some ropes. Soon after, Kucha tipped their raft into the water. Their torch fell in and Ogakor had won immunity.
At tribal council, Kucha lit their torches for the first time. Jeff Probst, the host, recited his usual speech about fire representing life. After asking a few questions and talking about the view, the voting began. After the votes were tallied, Jeff had received one vote; Debb received a unanimous seven. (It was unanimous because Debb could not vote herself. She accounted for the one vote for Jeff.) Debb was surprised when the votes were read. She said afterwards, “I should have been voted off if I had fallen during competition, if I was lazy, if I wasn’t a team player. But when I come here and give all of that and I still get voted off...that’s a shame.”
The S-Rating for Episode Two
Each week during Survivor, The Trades Staff will make our predictions for who believe will be voted off on the next episode. We will each be choosing one person from each tribe whom we feel will be voted off, depending on which tribe loses the immunity challenge.
Chad
Kucha: Kimmi
Comments: Kimmi’s voice will really begin to eat at the mind. Jeff has already voiced his opinion about Kimmi. Jeff seems to be a leader and may form an alliance to eliminate Kimmi. She was my pick to be voted off first.
Ogakor: Maralyn
Comments: From the little we have seen of Ogakor and judging from her nickname, Mad Dog, I think Maralyn will likely be a grumpy person and will leave very quickly. Although she is older, I think her attitude will be the main factor. We only briefly saw Ogakor so I may be completely wrong about Maralyn’s attitude.
Dead By Dawn
Kucha: Nick
Comments: Since we spent the majority of our time watching this tribe, we know their personalities much better. Although it would be easy to say Jeff or Kimmi, I bet the next vote for them will be much closer. I think they will win the next challenge, so this answer is who I expect to leave the show next. My answer? Nick. Why? Just a spidey sense kind of thing.
Ogakor: Tina
Comments: This is just instinct again. Once we learn about these tribes some more, then we'll understand better.

Kucha: Rodger
Comments: I'm in a toss up between Kimmi and Rodger. Kimmi's annoying, but she seemed to do fine in the immunity challenge. Rodger's foot getting caught on the netting during the challenge didn't bode well for him, though, and I think that will be held against him (even though Elizabeth fell *off* the bridge). His nice patter about everyone getting along during tribal council may show a sign of weakness, too. If he doesn't go next week, he'll be gone soon after. He's my #1 to go.
Ogakor: Tina
Comments: Other than Keith and Jerri's snappy comments towards each other (although didn't they hug after they won the immunity challenge, or was that Amber?), we really didn't get to see anyone singled out as a weak player. Maralyn seems worthy, even with her grey hair, which stands out as the 'elder' of the team. However, we really didn't see hardly a hair of Tina (at least, not that I can remember). If Ogakor has to vote off one of theirs next week, I'm guessing/going with her.
Jim
Kucha: Mike
Comments: He's the leader and he's reminiscent of Richard. Over the next 3 days, the tribe will recognize this. With a fire lit and food cooking and the shelter set up, Mike is not needed. And he's the one most likely to win. They'll get rid of him early.
Ogakor: ---
Comments: This is tough. We didn't see much of Ogakor. I'll say this, Maralyn will not be thier first member voted off. She's a strong lady and will prove herself very useful. I'm leaning toward Jerri on this one. She seems a little bitchy and not too useful. Keith would be a good choice too, but for the first few days, his career as a chef will be enjoyed by this tribe. So, he'll stay a while longer.
Mop
Kucha: Kimmi
Comments: Episode one was an easy pick. I was concerned that Debb may try to line Kucha against Jeff or Michael, but the final vote (SEVEN against Debb!) made it clear that her machinations backfired. Now with Debb out of the way, it's a toss up between Kimmi (annoys everyone) and Jeff (who, if he doesn't get better soon, will become the Ramona of Kucha tribe). I'm betting the guys will side by Jeff and he'll get better but there's nothing anyone can do about Kimmi keeping them up at night except vote her off. One thing's for certain: voting strategy hasn't changed since the first Survivor. Although we all know now that you should be voting off the strongest members of your tribe (Michael should have been gone the first episode if Kucha knew what was good for them), they're voting off the most annoying members first.
Ogakor: Maralyn
Comments: This is a total shot in the dark. I guess maybe Ogakor may vote off the oldest woman in the tribe like Kucha did. Everyone else is younger than Maralyn and may feel more comfortable with her gone.
Vince
Kucha: Kimmi
Comments: She was annoying everyone on during the night and that can easily supply the fuel needed for an alliance to boot her out.
Ogakor: Tina
Comments: This is a toss-up because in the first episode there wasn't much Ogakor and even less of Tina. I'm guessing this is a result of not participating much with the others, so she's my pick if Ogakor goes to the Tribal Council.
Survivor: The Australian Outback airs Thursdays at 8 pm ET on CBS.
Nielsen Media Research states that 43.6 million viewers watched this episode of Survivor II.
